The weekly AWM writing races have been attracting attention on Facebook over the last couple of months, and remain a great way to set aside an hour for your writing every week. This Wednesday night we’ll have our Guest Race Captain for the second half of the year – the awesome Jennifer Bacia will be joining us.
Jennifer has been called “a novelist to rival Sheldon” (Cosmopolitan magazine) and writes “superbly crafted thrillers” (the Sunday times). She’ll be on-hand to answer questions prior to this week’s race and encourage this week’s racers as they pursue their goals.
Come and join Jennifer and the AWM team tomorrow night at the Writing Race, which starts at 8:00pm. The Race will take the form of a comment stream within the Writing Race Event created on the AWM Facebook page. Just ‘join’ the event and then comment in the stream on the ‘AWM Writing Race’ Page. More information is available in our AWMonline Writing Race FAQs and here is the link to this week’s Writing Race Event.
Want to Know More About Jennifer Bacia?
It was a meeting with the enormously successful thriller author Sidney Sheldon that inspired Jennifer Bacia (pronounced ‘batcher’) to write her first suspense thriller. When the novel was almost completed, Colleen McCullough suggested a recently established Australian literary agent who was looking for a strong female commercial writer. The results were a debut author’s dream. Publishers battled over the rights and Indecent Ambition was bought for a record-breaking advance. The book was an international best seller, a lead title in the UK, a Book Club Choice and the movie rights were optioned. Sales were also made to leading foreign publishers and an extract featured in Cosmopolitan magazine. Jennifer’s success helped pave the way for the huge resurgence in Australia popular fiction writing that followed.
Now the author of 8 novels, 2 non-fiction works and dozens of short stories, Jennifer has also written for television and had regular newspaper and magazine columns in leading publications.
Her best-selling suspense thrillers, A Very Public Scandal, Indecent Ambition, Whisper Her Name, and Never Forget Me are irresistible fast-paced stories set against the glamour and intrigue of both Australian and international backgrounds.
She also writes romantic suspense with the compelling plotlines that are her signature. Titles include Everything to Lose, Best Kept Secrets and One Door Closes and The Almost Perfect Lover. As The Weekend Australian review put it, “Jennifer Bacia is especially good at the simple but deadly emotional arithmetic of contemporary relationships; the additions of years, kilos and responsibilities; the subtraction of love, support and respect”.
The film rights to ‘The Almost Perfect Lover’ have been optioned recently.
Jennifer has lived in Rome, London and LA and now resides in Brisbane.
Please note that some of the print published titles of Jennifer’s work have been changed as e-books. This is made clear on her website and e-sales sites.
