Author Thomas Keneally and researcher Olwen Pryke look at the documents at the State Library in Sydney

Schindler’s lost list has been found in an Australian library! Amid all the talk about digital publishing, this serves as a timely reminder about the role of libraries as museums, galleries, and archives. My student job was a shelf-monkey in an archival library, and my writer’s brain adored searching through the realia, maps, posters, and other fascinating archival material.

In Australia, published writers (or, as the Australian Tax Office calls them, "Special Professionals") receive tax benefits from archiving their material. So take care when creating and storing your journals and research papers – you never know when they’ll come in handy.
