Hachette Livre Australia and the Queensland Writers Centre have announced an exciting new national program for speculative fiction novelists, the Orbit/QWC Manuscript Development Program.

Up to 10 writers of sf or fantasy will be selected to attend a 5 day manuscript development retreat in May 2008 with publisher Bernadette Foley (who heads up Hachette’s new sf imprint, Orbit) and senior editor Deonie Fitford. Throughout the intensive 5 days participants will also hear about the publishing industry from professionals such as literary agents, booksellers and established authors.

QWC CEO Kate Eltham told us ‘Queensland Writers Centre is proud to work with Hachette Livre Australia to create new opportunities for development for Australian writers. Emerging writers often find it hard to get their work in front of publishers and editors. This program will give Australian writers an opportunity to consult directly with publishing industry professionals and to develop their novel manuscripts to a high standard.”

The application period is open now and closes on 23 January 2008. For full information and to download application forms, click here.
